Laptop or Notebook

Have you ever wonderred why they called Laptop as "Laptop". Well logically from the word Laptop we can clearly figure out that it is formed from the words "Lap" and "Top". And you can also find other type of computer devices called "Desktop" and "Palmtop". Therefore you can define those computer which you use in your lap, called laptop, those you use in your desk called desktop, and those you use in your palm called palmtop. So obvious...:D

Hmm but how about if you buy a laptop, but you can't use it in your lap?why?well..one obvious reason is because of the heat. My 3 years old 12inch Powerbook can dissipate heat more than 30 Deg C, from my dashboard-Istat Nano it shows the temperature upto 45 deg C. Of course you wouldn't put that kind of heat on your lap, would you?

From the article taken from Cnet.asia about the current release on Apple Macbook, Apple explain that "with processor and bus speeds in portable computers often matching, if not exceeding, those of desktop systems, increased operating temperatures in portable computing products are common throughout the industry. In other words, please don't use laptops on your laps anymore, unless receiving third-degree burns on your quadriceps happens to be a hobby of yours."

So i guess Laptop is no longer valid as a name, maybe we should call it "Notebook" from now on?but why Notebook?Maybe because the design and function like a notebook. And maybe that's why apple called their computer MacBook instead of MacLaptop...hahahha...
