Super Excellent (SUPEX)

This week, starting from Monday-Wednesday, I went to SK Academy-Yongin city for the summer SK Global internship program orientation. In this orientation all of the interns from all SK groups from SK energy, SK telecom, and other SK company, are joined here to have orientation to know more about SK as a group. I really had a great time here, and I met a lot of new friends from all over the world. In my group especially (picture above-details can be seen here), we are all from different whole other countries; Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Phillipine, China, Germany, USA, Egypt, Kenya, Ghana, Sweden, Rusia, Kazakhstan, Irak, Pakistan, Netherland, And Turki...
There are a few lectures that we attended, but one special lectures was given by the CEO of Harley Davidson Korea. He explain about how "spirits in a product" is a very important factor. And also about passion which comes from the latin word "Pasus=pain", which means that passion is something that will change your life but it comes with a price. Another thing that I learned was about SUPEX-Super Excellent. Supex is the SK-way of promoting the excellence in SK people to achieve their maximum potential in their work. And I think it is a unique word, and has a very deep meaning in it.
Beside the lectures, we also had some other fun activities, like sports, body and mind training, hiking, and also wathing the SK wyverns baseball game.
I think I will be enjoying my time here for the next 5 weeks in this internship program...

Team-building

I had a Sales-team building of Hempel Indonesia last friday. We went to Senayan Golf driving range to learn how to play golf. All this while I have no interest in golf, cause I thought no fun in doing, and what you need to do is just to get the ball in to the whole using a stick. ..Sounds extremely simple. We met at senayan at 845am, and start the lesson at about 945am. Darren, the golf instructor, taught us the theory at about an hour or so...everything looks simple. The most important thing in golf is the grip, the swing and relax...hehehhe..and I still remember the key word, "let the club do the job"...
After an hour of theory, everyone grabbed their own golf club and we were given 150 balls to try out our swing at the driving range. My first few tryouts was suck, my swing always missed and didn't hit the ball at all. The club is not as light as i imagine, its actually kinda heavy. I managed to hit some good shot, and the furthest was about 100ft away. Its kinda interesting actually, especially when you know how to play..hehehhe..
After the game we head our way to Plaza senayan and had our late lunch there. After lunch we went to bowling alley. And again it was not my lucky day, cause I can't even reach 100 point for my first game.
After the game, I went for a dinner in bakerz-in to eat Sop-buntut. And then continue to the movie theater to watch MI-3. The movie was fantastic...

This weekend was a busy Weekend for me. Last Friday Night I met with my ex-classmates friend Valu in Plaza Senayan. Well actually I was meeting one of my client there and then valu call and we met there. We had a long talk and updates on Indo-ME (Indonesian-NTU- Materials Engineering).
On friday night my colleague, Mr. Jun Tabia-Technical Manager had his birthday party in one restaurant in Kemang. It was a night full of laugh and jokes. Most of the managers and some staff were there also to celebrate his Birthday. Even though rain poured heavily, still the party went smoothly.

Focus on solution

Today I learn 2 things. First is I have to focus more on solution rather than the problems, that way i can see more and can think more not only out of the box but step out of the box. This story is the best analogy for this:
When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out
that the pens wouldn't work at zero gravity. Ink won't flow down to
the writing surface.
In order to solve this problem, they hired Andersen Consulting
(Accenture today). It took them one decade and 12 million dollars.
They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, under
water, in practically any surface including crystal and in a
temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees C.
The Russians used a pencil....!

The second thing is that I realize that sometimes you are stress because of others or the environment, if i tried to change that it will take years or even impossible. Therefore try to change something within me is much easier.
Sometimes the win blow too hard
Sometimes it blow to the unwanted direction too
You Can't Direct The Wind
But you Can Adjust Your Sail

Young and Dangerous

Today i'm quite dissapointed. Most of the people in my company is already old, and I am basically the youngest. However that's become a problem for me, because some people look at my age instead of my work. Young doesn't mean that the work is lesser that the old, it can be the reverse of that. For me i will still stick what God says:
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity". 1 Tim 4:12
Now its time to be wiser, to give more example, to show more of the best, and to love more.

Idealism or Realism

Balikpapan
Originally uploaded by

Last week I went for a business trip to the famous Borneo Island (Kalimantan). My 3 days trip covered the east and south side of Kalimantan. I depart from Jakarta to Balikpapan. In Balikpapan I visit Hempel Branch (showed in photo). On the same day I went to Samarinda by car, it took me 2 hours plus to reach Samarinda. The next day, I took a plan to Banjarmasin, the southeast part of Kalimantan. In Balikpapan actually I made a plan with Gunawan (Metal 98) to meet him another 2 of my friends from UI (Universitas Indonesia) last time. But due to my tight schedule, I can’t meet them. However I managed to call my high school friend, Andy arvian and also got indo about Rido in Banjarmasin. In Banjarmasin, I met rido which is now a police officer. Basically we have a long talk and a bit of reunion in there. One thing that I can conclude from my chit chat is about Idealism. Everyone must have idealism, especially if you are educated in a strict family or school (like my highschool-Taruna Nusantara). However, along with time, situation and condition these things will be wear off. Until realism finally wipe out our idealism. But is that true? Is it happening to all of us? Let me take a simple example from my experience. If you are driving in the middle of Jakarta crowded traffic, and everybody has their own rules, what would you do? Would you follow your idealism and stick to the regulations or you follow the realism? What do you think.....

Jazz up your life

Yesterday I went to Mangga dua Mall, a shopping mall complex in Jakarta which sells alot of branded goods. Well the difference is that you cant really tell whether the branded goods are genuine or not. The thing is that the goods are really cheap here.
However I went there not to shop for branded goods. I went there to buy some Cd's and DVD's. But thats not the news. The exciting thing is that, when I was entering the mall, there were a car show/fair at the mall atrium. One of the car that I have spotted for long was the Honda Jazz. When I got in to the cabin, I was amazed with the interior looks of this car. It's very sporty. I like the steering wheel, very nice to hold and firm. The exterior was also great, with sporty touch. Well the bottom line is that this is a great car to drive. I wish my company can provide such car....hehehehe. Its really uncomparable with the current car which my company gave which is the Mitsubishi Kuda (I'll tell you about this car later on...). What I had in mind is a brand new Red Honda Jazz V-tec Automatic, Sport modified, with a red interior. Awesome....

My last day in Singapore Office

Well today kinda sad day for me, because today is my last day in Hempel Singapore. Just now I have to go around the office just to say goodbye to everybody. Well I hate goodbye, and I prefer not to use the word goodbye. I like "see you" instead, because it sounds more positive. Well anyway, there are times to meet and there will be times to leave. However I am still in the same company so, we can still contact each other. And I believe I'll be coming down to Singapore also some other time, well I still have my permanent residence. I'll see you again all colleagues, and its been a wonderful period for me working in Hempel Singapore.....;)

Work hard, play hard

Last night I went for my farewell with my colleagues. Most of them are from the Pow Wow Committee (from left to right :Lily, Joe, Zaharah, Nicky, Shawn, Parlin, Dorai). We went to a place call Samy's Curry Restaurant in Dempsey Road, on the right side of Holland road if you are going towards orchard. The place is quite remote, however it's very cozy. The building is like the colonial type of building, so the ambiance makes u feel eating in an exotic place. I actually have been there for a few times, the first time was after a jog in botanical gardens with my colleague, Shawn and lily. And I love the taste of the food. The food is from southern India, and it is very tasty. I like the chicken, the curry, the prawns, and basically everything. They normally serve it with banana leaf, which makes it more exotic. If you see in the picture above the middle one is fish head curry, and I love the curry taste, well maybe not for you who don't like spicy. The visitors in this restaurant mostly are westerners, or what Singaporeans refer to "Ang mo". And you know what, this restaurant was recorded in the New York times under traveling. Well I don't really care, as long as they serve good food.
After the dinner we went to my place, to chit chat and sat by the pool while enjoying the taste of Australian Wine that my colleague, Joe, bring after his last trip to down under. We talked about the issues (actually gossip) in the office, activities, the next and last Triathlon events and also ghost stories. I just knew that our office is that scary from their story. Some has experiences to hear sounds or see stuffs while working late, thanks God I don't have to work late. Well anyway it was a fun night, and my friend gave me a souvenir as a remembrance. I'm really going to miss working in Singapore Office. Well anyway, i will be coming back here (Singapore Office) anytime if there is any meetings or conference in Singapore. But i will miss the activities that our Singapore office has, like the Triathlon, marathon, the paint ball war, the bowling, family day and the dinner and dance. Well, i believe that there's going to be a lot of new things happen later on in Jakarta's office, definitely more busy with the work. As what they say, Work hard, Play hard.

We had our annual (actually its every 2 years) Dinner and Dance, and this time the theme is Retro Night. All the participants were very supporting with their outfits, including me. Well it was a very fun night.
One of the thing that the staffs have anticipated was the Lucky draw. There were 50 prizes up for grab that night. Well lucky enough, i won the 8th prize, which is a Digital Camera. My roommate, Nicky Tan (from IT Dept) won the 2nd prize, which is the Laptop. It was a fun night, I will update with more pictures soon, including my pictures with the costume and the Full Monty dance...;)

I'll post the pictures later with my weird RETRO Costume that I am going to wear. Hmmm...Who is going to be lucky person who will get the first lucky draw prize...
